District Manager - DC Metro Area

Position Summary

We are looking for a District Manager to join our team in the Virginia/DC Market. The position will be based in the Virginia/DC area and major markets will include Virginia and Washington DC.  

The District Manager will manage 5-10 stores and be required to travel regularly, by car or plane overnight. The goals for the District Manager include maximizing financial output for their assigned stores, successfully initiating new store growth, driving performance of existing stores and demonstrating operational execution.  This encompasses customer growth, sales revenue, merchandise presentations, the ability to recruit/develop/retain talent and execution of all corporate initiatives.

Essential Functions

Sales and Operations
  • Work closely with central buying team to ensure invoices and products are received correctly
  • Monitor the results of store cycle inventories and store audits to ensure adjustments of any insufficiencies
  • Empower store teams to act quickly and creatively to resolve customer issues, and respond effectively to customer issues appropriately
  • Conduct store visits to ensure district compliance to all company policies, directives, and operational standards
  • Review P+L and identify opportunities to reduce expenses, meet goals, and manage and control shrink
  • Set standards for exceptional customer service
  • Maintain compliance to company safety regulations, as well as state and federal laws
  • Ensure all loss prevention communications are followed to maintain awareness of shoplifting issues and internal theft
  • Provide management expertise of opening multiple retail stores in the designated district while maintaining the integrity and service of our existing stores
Talent Management
  • Hire, train and retain top talent at all levels
  • Continuously provide mentoring and development to Store Managers and teams to model the company’s missions and values
  • Handle employee relations issues in a timely manner
  • Develop Store Managers and teams through regular store visits, management meetings, continuous communication and constructive feedback
  • Actively look for new ways to increase store effectiveness and team building
  • Create and ensure an environment where all members are treated fairly and respectfully
  • Approve bi-weekly payroll time sheets

The successful candidate ideally will have:
  • At least 8+ years' experience in store management and multi-unit retail management
  • Possess District Manager experience from a retailer that requires education about their products
  • A strong understanding of what is needed to motivate and retain top talent
  • Proven ability to achieve outstanding business results through others, from a distance
  • Strong customer service skills, including clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills, with ability to handle multiple, detailed projects
  • Ability to understand revenue and P&L numbers and be able to communicate necessary information to appropriate individuals
  • Proficient use of electronic business tools: laptop computers, computer applications, POS systems, and communications devices
  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science from a regionally accredited college or university in a related field of study, such as business administration, is required, although equivalent experience may be accepted as a substitute
  • Proven ability to work productively with others, welcome and adapt well to change, communicate thoughts and feelings effectively, and receive and respond to feedback professionally
  • Willingness to be a team player and wear many hats, at times outside the scope of the job
  • A sense of adventure and be able to incorporate fun into work
